Extract audio from video on iPhone as M4A
Keep the sound from a video without keeping a video file alongside it. Vidmute can export the audio track as M4A directly on your iPhone, without uploading the recording to a conversion website.
How to save a video’s audio in four steps
- Open Vidmute and choose a video from Photos or Files. If it is stored only in the cloud, download it to your phone first.
- Select M4A as the output format. This selects audio extraction instead of video conversion.
- Start the conversion and wait for the audio file to finish. A longer source recording can take more time to process.
- Open the completed file, listen to the result and use the export or share action to save it to Files or send it to another app.
Does Vidmute extract MP3 audio?
The audio-only output in Vidmute is M4A, not MP3. Choose this workflow when the receiving app accepts M4A. If a service specifically requires MP3, this output will not meet that requirement; changing a filename from .m4a to .mp3 does not convert the audio.
Can I extract audio without internet?
Yes, once the source video is available locally. Conversion runs on your device and does not need an account or cloud upload. A video shown in Photos may still need to download from iCloud before you can process it offline. Sharing through email or an online service is a separate step that may require a connection.
Why is audio extraction failing?
First play the original video and check that it contains sound. A silent video with no audio track cannot produce a useful audio export. A damaged file, protected recording or unsupported audio track may also fail. Try a short video recorded on your iPhone to check whether the issue is specific to the source file.
Need the picture as well?
