Conduit offset bend spacing and the 30° multiplier

For a two-bend conduit offset, the offset height and the bend angle determine the spacing between bends. The usual geometric calculation is spacing = offset height ÷ sin(angle). Both bends use the same angle so the conduit returns to a parallel run.

What is the multiplier for a 30-degree offset?

At 30°, the multiplier is 2. For example, a 4-inch offset gives 4 × 2 = 8 inches between bends. A 6-inch offset gives 12 inches. These numbers describe bend spacing, not the finished stub length or the distance to an obstruction.

Common conduit offset multipliers

These values come from 1 ÷ sin(angle). Hand-bender charts commonly round the multipliers, so the free web calculator may show slightly different results for angles other than 30°. Use one consistent method and follow the markings and instructions for your bender.

Is bend spacing the same as shrinkage?

No. Spacing is the separation between bends. Shrinkage describes the length lost along the original direction of the run and affects where you place the offset relative to an obstruction. Do not use the spacing multiplier as a shrinkage multiplier. A 90° stub-up uses a different layout and a bender-specific take-up.
