How to use offline voice to text on iPhone
AirTranscript turns a recording into text on your iPhone. To use it away from Wi-Fi or mobile data, download a transcription model before you go offline. The speech recognition then runs locally rather than sending the recording to a server.
Prepare your iPhone before going offline
- Install AirTranscript and open it while you have an internet connection.
- Choose a transcription model in Settings and let the download and loading finish. The app offers Tiny, Base and Small models.
- Allow microphone access so the app can record your voice. Make a short test recording and confirm that it produces a transcript.
- Keep the downloaded model on your device. You can then record and transcribe without an internet connection.
Record a note and turn speech into text
Start a recording in AirTranscript and speak clearly near the microphone. Stop the recording when you are finished, let transcription complete and review the text. Save the note with a useful title so you can find it again. Copy the transcript or use the sharing action when you want to use the text elsewhere.
This workflow is for recording in AirTranscript. It does not require uploading a Voice Memos file or connecting a meeting bot. Transcription captures speech; review the wording before using it as a finished email, quote or meeting record.
Which offline model should I choose?
Tiny is the smaller option for a quick start. Base is a practical starting point for everyday recordings. Small uses more device resources and can be worth trying when a difficult recording needs another pass. Processing time and accuracy depend on your phone, the language, background noise and how clearly people speak.
Why does an offline app need a download?
The model contains the data used for speech recognition. Downloading it is a setup step; the recording itself is processed on-device. If you switch to a model that has not been downloaded, or remove the saved model, you will need a connection to download it again. Complete setup before relying on the app during travel.
Is there a transcription subscription?
AirTranscript is a one-time App Store purchase, with no transcription subscription or account required. See the store for the price in your region. You can read more about recording and stored notes on the support page and data handling in the privacy policy.
